Hi! My name is Skipper, and I am the happiest boy in the world. You would think the reason I was brought to a shelter would not make be happy, but you know, when life gives you lemons -you make lemonade. Well, doggies don't know what lemonade is but you know what I mean.
I was found outside a coffee shop tied to a pole. I could barely walk because my nails were SO long! Animal Control came and got me and sent my picture to Treasured Animal Rescue. I'm so stinking cute of course they said, "send him up".
Boy, I was a hot mess when I came to rescue. But don't worry or fret because my Rescuers made sure I have been taken care of. I think my previous owner couldn't take care of me and just let me go. I have NO desire of getting away from my rescuers or other Humans because I love them so much. But wherever I was before I didn't have the best care.
See, my fur on my body had some yucky stuff on it and I lost a lot of my fur. I think it makes me unique. My foster Mom thinks so. When she gave me daily baths to help my skin, she would tell me "Skipper-Doo your days of being a stray are over. You are so handsome. I hope your fur grows back but if doesn't someone is going to love you like I do!"
Sadly, some of my fur didn't grow back but that's ok. I liked all the baths and getting that extra TLC. It just makes me more special and unique.
I spend my days lounging outside. I like to soak up the sun and I love, and I mean I love my toys. My doggie vet is guessing my age is around 8-10 years old but because of the condition I was in it's hard to tell. But when I play, I sure don't act like a 10-year dog. I make my foster Mom laugh because I'm the happiest when I'm on a couch. I like to roll around on my back and be silly. Sometimes, I do that in my crate and fall asleep like that. Checkout my pictures of me in my "sleeping position".
I'm house trained & crate trained but I do lift my leg once in a while to mark. I know I know, that's not good but I try so hard, but you know us oldies have some habits are hard to break. Maybe you will be ok with me once in a while marking because you know, I'm so darn cute!
You may have noticed my eyes are a little cloudy. Oh, I can see and when there's food trust me my nose knows when the goodies are coming! My eyes? I have chronic dry eye. Morning my foster Mom gives me my "no more tears" and at nighttime same thing. It's our ritual. Oh, another ritual? I go in my crate to sleep, and I get a Greenie. Told you I've been taken care of! I love my Greenies! When I go to sleep I like to sleep on my back and with one of my toys. Little squeaky bears are my favorite.
I hope one day I will have a family. Maybe a family with kids. I would like all that attention from the kiddos so we can play fetch. Or maybe you a "mature" family who's like me. Got some spunk but yet like the quiet side of things.
What do you say? Ready to meet the Happiest Boy in the World? Just remember my name - Skipper or Skipper Doo!
xoxo,
Skipper

Note on Skipper's health. Despite his fur loss and cloudy eyes Skipper is on the path for a healthy life. He has chronic dry eye which means his eyes can't produce tears. If they get too dry they can be infected so he gets his daily drops which he takes like a Champ. He also lost some fur on his tail area due to either fleas (which he has no fleas now) or poor diet to have him lose his fur. His skin is super soft but our vets believe his fur might not grow back in that area.
Sorry, Treasured Animal Rescue does not adopt out of the State of Illinois
Thank you for choosing to adopt!
