Hi! My name is Serena and a ~1.5 year old Lab / Shepherd mix. I weigh 77 lbs so I guess you could say I'm a big girl. As you can see by my pictures, I am all black except my paws, which are sable coloring like a Shepherd.
I was found as a stray and picked up by a local animal shelter. TAR pulled me out of the shelter because they know large-breed, dark colored dogs are the last to be adopted out of a shelter environment.
I'm in a foster home that has other dogs, cats and I do very well with them. When I see other big dogs, I get very excited and will bark. Small dogs are more my speed, and I make friends with them right away.
Silly Serena is my nickname because I get silly. I know SIT, and then I'll give you one of my paws, and then - just for the heck of it - I go silly, and I roll over on my back and get you to rub my belly. I also want to be a lap dog. I know, 77 lbs. frtis a big lap dog, but I’m sweet, silly and loving and just want to snuggle with my humans.
I am also housetrained! I'm a real lady and I will tell you I have to go potty - I will whine or give out a bark. I haven’t had any accidents in my foster home. I am also crate trained, and that is where I get my meals, nice treats and I catch up on my beauty sleep in my foster home. All my foster Mom has to say is "Serena, go kennel". See, not only am I beautiful I am also smart!
In the house, I am very quiet unless all the other dogs are barking. But outside? Oh, that’s a different story. When I’m playing outside and I see all the kids walking by or running around - my foster home is right by a school - and lots of cars, I get excited and that is when I bark. I have a really loud bark! So, I’m a good deterrent, because the bad guys don’t know I’m just playful and silly. I've learned the command NO BARK. My foster Mom says I'm super smart and a quick learner.
Due to my breed and my loud bark, a single-family home is best for me. A fenced yard would be ideal, though a run in a protected yard could also work. I take food very gently but when I get excited, I do jump. I am sweet and would probably do well with kids who are at least 5 years old, due to my size - that's a lot of weight jumping on a little tyke, and I might accidentally knock over a toddler. If you tell me "Serena, OFF" I listen. See, not only am I pretty - but I'm also a smart cookie!
I could use a little help in walking on a leash. I do pull, but I am such a quick learner, and so smart, I know in a short time I will learn to walk more nicely on a leash.
So, if you are looking for a big dog to make you laugh and to protect and snuggle with you, then I am your gal.
So, what do you say? Ready for silliness?
All you gotta to do is complete an application and our fun times begin!
xoxo,
Serena
