Hello, my name is Iris and I am an 8 years old, 41 lb mixed breed of all sorts. I have wiry hair, but I don’t shed. I’m probably a Terrier mix of some sort. (You know there are a lot of Terriers and when you get a mix you get the best of both worlds.) Because I have blue spots on my tognue, I probably have some how chow or shar-pei in my heritage somewhere. . Maybe my breeding is a mystery but I’m an open book.
My Human passed away when he & I were together. I guess you can say I was his faithful companion until the end. My Human’s family didn’t want me, so they surrendered me to a shelter. There was a kind shelter person who found a rescue to help me because she knew that a shelter environment can be really hard on a mature gal. Treasured Animal Rescue was the rescue that said, “send her to us.”
Although I’m middle aged, I have lots of life and love to share with my new family. My foster mom says I’m the PERFECT dog. I’m quiet and house trained, I’m good on a leash, and I am very laid back and chill. I just love to just lay with my human – on the couch is my favorite place to snuggle. I also like hanging out in my foster Grandma’s room with some little dogs. We call that the “little dog room” but um, I’m not little. Remember I weigh 41# but my personality is, so chill I just fit right in with the little dog pack.
I am a happy girl who wags my tail gently when I meet new humans. Also, now that our weather is getting nicer, I enjoy sitting outside in the backyard. Sometimes I like baking in the sun, but sometimes I prefer the shade. I do need a fenced yard because I get skittish at sudden noises, and I don’t want to become a stray.
I’m in a foster home that has other dogs, cats and kittens. I haven’t been around small kids, but I have met some elementary aged kids and that went well. TAR recommends I be in a house with kids 8 yrs old or older, just like me!
When I first came to rescue, my coat and skin were not in great shape. However, now that I’m getting really good doggie food and an occasional bath, I’m doing a lot better. Keeping me on healthy food will help me have a happy, healthy life.
