I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Cooper

I'm Available

Hello!  My name is Cooper, and I am 5 years old.  I just had my 5th birthday.  Thank you for reading my profile.  I have quite the rescue story - so pull up a chair.

In rescue, it's not common to know a dog's birthday but Treasured Animal Rescue rescued me right when I was born.  My mama had her babies with TAR 5 years ago.  I was able to stay with my siblings and Mama until it was time for me to find my forever home.  I was adopted but sadly the family brought me to a local shelter.  My microchip traced back to TAR and when they got the call that I was there they flew right over to get me.  They said, no Treasured Gems of theirs would be in a shelter!

I was brought into the shelter because my family said I stink.  Yes, I did have an odor but it's not because I don't wear deodorant.  It's because my skin smelled.  I was experiencing an allergy to food and didn't get the care I needed to get rid of the smell.  When my foster Mom got me out of the shelter, she smelled me right away and knew I had to see a doggie vet.  Sadly, my family never took me to the vet.

I was experiencing an allergy to the food I was eating.  Let me tell you, I love food, so when you put doggie food in my bowl, I'll eat it even with knowing it's going to make me itch.  My skin was really red from all my scratching.  The doggie vet said it's easy to fix and my foster Mom knew what to do - change my food!

I get special food that helps my skin (it's very reasonable and can be purchased at any pet store).  I get an extra vitamin to help my skin stay healthy and once a week I get a bath.  I'm getting used to the baths but if I stay on my diet, I don't need the baths and more importantly don't stink.

During my day, I like to hang out on the couch.  I'm what you call a couch potato.  I like to watch TV with my foster Mom or just watch it by myself.  I like other dogs, and I'll ignore the cats that live in my foster home.  At nighttime, I sleep sometimes with my foster Grandma.  I get to sleep on her pillow, or I stay in my crate.  I don't mind the crate.  I don't really need a crate as I am housetrained but it's ok in my next home if I have one.

But one thing about my next home - no apartments!  Even though I'm the perfect size for an apartment I have a weird bark.  I'm a quiet boy most of the time but when I get excited my bark is like a scream or a wail.  I don't do this when I'm left alone but when I hear noises or know you're coming home - that's when I get excited and .... it's loud.  So, maybe no apartments or shared walls.  We wouldn't want other people to get mad but honestly, when you hear my wails, it will make you laugh.

My Mama was a typical Chihuahua but we didn't know who my Daddy was.  I am a Chihuahua on stilts.  I have long legs and a long body.  When I curl up on your lap I will perfectly.

So, that's my story.  I hope one day we can meet, and I have a new family.  A family that won't bring me to a shelter.  I might get that stinky smell again but that just means I ate something that I'm allergic too.  Sure, I could take a bunch of medication to help but knowing what foods get a reaction helps.  My foster mom can tell you all about that.

xoxo,

Cooper
